Where In The World Is Evan?

A Fond Farewell

For those of you who’ve not spoken to me directly in the last month I have some big news… I’m finally going home!

After a two week visit to China that eventuated into 10 months, I have finally left. Presently I am in Luang Prabang, in the north of Laos, but I will be heading across the border into Thailand within a week, to fly home to Melbourne.

The last 10 months have been the happiest time of my life and I owe a great debt to all of those who helped me along the way.

For those of you who were with me from the beginning, were it not for the friendship and support that you all provided I would never have stayed in China and I would not be the person I am today. I cannot thank you all enough!

To Olen and Anne I extend my undying gratitude for the chance encounter at a street market in Xi’an that changed my life. I am sure that I will see you both again soon. I owe you both so much, should you ever need anything don’t hesitate to call.

To Chloe, my little sister, for the many good times and for being the only friend to visit me on my sick bed after I discharged myself from the hospital. I promise that I will come back to see your cafe!

To Sergio, whilst we met in awkward circumstances (Anne should know what I mean) your friendship proved the strongest. I will never forget the grueling weeks we spent in Tibet, nor the journey home. You owe me one ;-)

To Jon, for the innumerable parties, for the moral support when I was teaching, and for bailing me out in Urumqi I thank you sincerely. I don’t think I have ever misjudged a person so much, based on first impressions, as I did you.

To Richard, for the many nights spent debriefing after a hard day at school, and for putting up with my mess and sloth, thank you.

To Lisa, for the many things that I cannot mention here… I will find you again somewhere, even if I need to cross the world to do it.

For those of you who were with me at the end, thank you all for making my last month in China the most wild time of my life.

To David, for the many times you helped me out and for the many great parties, I owe you a lot.

To Mark, for being a good friend in the brief time that I knew you.

To Peter and Jeroen, for providing me with free accommodation and for the great parties.

To Lianca, for being there when I really needed someone and for making sure I didn’t miss my flight. I’m sorry things are the way they are.

For everyone I met in China who isn’t mentioned above, thank you all. I’ve not forgotten the friendship and assistance that every one of you provided.

To all my friends and family back home, I forgive you for the ever diminishing emails and look forward to seeing you all again soon.
